As always, Melinda's characters are well developed and highly identifiable. The storyline is fast-paced and there is both suspense and romance. Another page turner from one of my favorite authors!

This book was an enjoyable thriller that moved quickly and provided sufficient suspense. I enjoyed the female lead character, who was an attractive, tall, lean, butt-kicking capable attorney. At least the author gave the woman short hair for a change so we didn't have to read about her long beautiful hair getting in the way of her adventures. She manages to get in the middle of an incident where a young girl (sex slave) is trying to run away from the evil pimp. Our Hero tries to rescue the girl, but is foiled in the end and spends the rest of the book mentally beating herself up over the episode. The evil pimp's manhood is so threatened by this woman that he and his even-more-evil bro' travel over 2,000 miles to track down Our Hero. The evil-doers in the book exceed the evil quotient by quite a bit, as they raped, robbed, pillaged and plundered, and tracked down our heroine. She also manages to find herself a love interest in a cop helping with an old case that involved her brother.
This book isn't P.D. James, but it is fine for an airplane or vacation read. I would download another by this author.
Three boys and one girl in this family and a father whos is bent on teaching his children survival- all except his daughter so she has to do it on her own. She grew up to be a successful attorney but also becomes an investor in a lucrative business which requires her to travel. On one of her trips she tries to stop an abduction of a teenage girl in the parking lot in Las Vegas. They grab the girl anyway and she ends up with some severe injuries. She goes on a quest to find this girl after she recovers but a lot happens in between as the kidnappers decide to take revenge.

I really enjoyed this suspensful tale but there were a couple of muddy areas where I questioned the probabilities but... that's just me. The only other problem I had was this gal was a survivalist in the true sense of the word.
The second book in the Scarlet Falls series does not disappoint. Hannah, sister of Grant (protagonist in first book), is unaware she has been followed to her family's home by the man who assaulted her in Las Vegas. As usual with Ms Leigh, the characters have depth and personality (even the bad guys). There are enough suspenseful moments to keep me intrigued but not so much to have me looking over my shoulder at night. Add in the possibly burgeoning romance with Detective Brody, and the story just gets better. Interwoven in the plot is the theme of runaway and/or missing girls and the wrenching reality of sex trafficking. The topic of underage girls being brutalized and sold was tough to read. Ms Leigh handled this with timely and accurate information. Hopefully, with books like this the issue will continue to be publicized.
The series of Scarlet Falls was good so far but I hope Ms. Leigh writes about the youngest brother Mac . This second book in the series was good as Hannah tries to help a young girl who escaped from a nightmare only to be snatched back again . Hannah a corporate attorney was celebrating a deal made for one of her clients, while leaving the lounge, she heard the screams of a young woman in distress. She tried to help her but found herself at risk as a car smashed into hers She had planned a short vacation with her brother and family but now had no choice . Because of what she has seen , when she returns to her home town , she brings danger to those she loves.
Both the books in the series have been top notch.
Attorney Hannah Barrett is just leaving a party in Las Vegas for one of her firms clients when she interrupts a kidnapping of a young teenager. Hannah tries but is unable to rescue the girl. After it is all over Hannah realizes she has lost her wallet and phone and the kidnapper has them. Hannah suffers a concussion during her efforts to stop the kidnapping and is forced to go home to Scarlet Falls to recuperate. Hannah soon has to turn to Brody McNamara, a local detective, for help. As they realize the kidnappers have followed her to Scarlet Falls Hannah and Brody work close together and sparks fly. Another hit for Melinda!
We met both Hannah and Brody in book 1. She is Grant’s sister and Brody was the cop investigating the murder of Hanna and Grants brother. In this book Hannah tries to rescue a young girl, but fails. The bad guys comes after Hannah to get revenge. She tells Brody what happened and he tries to help her. It’s a romance / crime book. I really liked Hannah, she’s a little naive sometimes but she can kick ass to. Love it when a female have some backbone! But the story was a little slow at the beginning, then all the action comes in a few chapters. Some of the plot unraveled pretty easily at the end, to easy! But it is enjoyable, and has a cute ending.
Melinda Leigh has me hooked in two different series. They are similar in many ways but different enough to be unique. They both involve a female lawyer, male detective or private investigator, murder, romance, and daily life struggles. Yet each series is distinctive. Since I do not want to give away anything about each individual book, I will tell you only that they are all written by an intelligent woman using good writing skills and having a good proof reader. I am anxious to begin book three in this series.
